"Man slipped and fell into a recycling baler machine.."

The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog has posted incidents where unguarded or inadequately guarded machines resulted in amputations, lacerations, and even death.

Here is a story emphasizing the need for machine guards.

A worker was killed during the week of August 25 in an industrial accident at a recycling plant in the Eastern United States.

Police lieutenant  said officers were called to a recycling company in the early afternoon. The lieutenant said an employee was killed in an industrial accident. Police believe the man slipped and fell into a recycling baler machine, which compacts aluminum cans. The man was dead by the time police arrived. Police are not treating the incident as a crime, police lieutenant. Occupational Safety & Health Administration personnel were at the scene.

The plant closed after the incident. Police are not releasing the name of the man killed until they notify the next of kin. The plant did not issue any statement Tuesday afternoon. The incident is still under investigation.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration has some useful information on machine guarding. It can be found here .
