Every mode of
transportation is used in our industry for transporting raw materials to our
plants and finished products to our customers. Each mode of transport has its
own unique hazards to our workers. Here is a recent incident that could have
been a lot worse:
About 8:45 a.m. on December 25, 2014 parts of a train carrying aluminum ingots derailed outside Russellville, Kentucky in the United States.
Five cars derailed as the result of rails giving away,
according to Logan County Sheriff.

"No one was
injured," Logan County Sheriff said. Deputies were
gone from the scene shortly after 11 a.m., and crews from R.J. Corman,
which owns the shortline railroad, were expected to arrive early this afternoon
to clean up the site.
The derailment
occurred at U.S. 431 and North Main Street.
"The cars
were leaving Logan Aluminum," Logan County Sheriff said.
The Aluminium
Plant Safety Blog is pleased that no one was injured in this derailment. If
this derailment occurred on aluminium company property the result may have been
different. It is important that aluminum company workers who deal with the
loading, unloading, and moving of railcars on company property are properly
trained.
