The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog only posts stories that have made it
into the news media. Some of the news articles are short in description, but
long on the impact that they may have for you and your workers. Here is a
recent story that emphasizes the continued need for molten metal safety
training.
Five workers were injured with burns in an accident reported
today at the aluminium plant, as reported by the Providence’s Department of
Security. The accident happened just before one o’clock when, apparently,
operators working with an oven.
The five were taken to a nearby hospital and at least one of
them has serious injuries.
The aluminium plant location is a plant light metal foundry
dedicated to the processing of aluminum waste, among other activities.
What exactly happened is not known through the information provided
by the news article. But, the APSB would assume a molten metal explosion of
some degree occurred and the workers safety clothing was inadequate to protect
them from molten metal.
