The use of trucks to move raw materials and
finished products occurs a thousand times a day without incident. On occasion
an incident occurs which makes us realize the hazard associated with truck
transportation. Here is a recent story:
Just before midday fire crews were called
to a truck fire on Boyne Island Road near the Riverstone Rise roundabout.
The fire is believed to
have started in the cabin. Locals were quick to help out, giving the driver a
fire extinguisher to put the flames out.
The inside of the cabin was completely
burnt. QAS assessed the driver for smoke inhalation and transported him to
hospital for observation.
We are glad that the trucker and no nearby motorists were injured in
this fire. We commend the trucker for apparently pulling over when he noticed smoke in the cab.
We decided to post this incident because of the following sentence “Locals
were quick to help out, giving the driver a fire extinguisher to put the flames
out.” We wondered if the trucker had a fire extinguisher in the truck or not? Regardless,
it is recommended that every truck have a fire extinguisher that can be reached
quickly.
Lastly, we commend the "locals" for helping out. When in doubt come to the aid of a motorist in need.
