A fire broke out at the metal recycling site of (company name and
location omitted). A shed where aluminum and copper is stored caught fire
for unknown reasons.
At the time the fire broke out, welding was being done in the
room, but it is still unclear whether that is where the spark that started the
fire was created. In any case, the fire brigade had to turn out en masse
to get the flames under control. The fire was fierce, but was quickly
extinguished. Because it was a metal fire, in which potentially harmful
substances were released, local residents were immediately asked to close
windows and doors and switch off ventilation systems.
In order to rule out health risks, a measurement team came on site
to check whether any hazardous substances had actually been burned up. No
risks could be detected in the air samples. The fire brigade and the
company itself are monitoring the situation even further and will take a few
more soil samples to completely rule out health risks.
Apparently, no workers or nearby residents were injured in this
fire. We hope the fire department extinguished using a Class D extinguishing
agent.
