Furnace explodes...1 dead...2 injure....

The hazards associated with gas fired ovens/furnaces is well known throughout our industry. Sadly, this tragedy emphasizes this hazard.

Explosion at aluminum factory in (location omitted): 1 dead, 3 injured

In the explosion that took place in the furnace section of the aluminum production factory in the Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) in (location omitted), 1 person was killed and 3 people were injured.

The incident occurred in the morning hours, in the 2nd stage of the OIZ on the (location omitted) road. While the work was being done in the furnace part of the aluminum production factory, there was an explosion for an undetermined reason.

Upon the notification of the factory workers, many health, fire, police and AFAD teams in special suits against chemical-biological-radiological-nuclear threats (CBRN) were sent to the region.

In the explosion, 4 people were injured, 1 seriously. The injured were taken to hospitals by paramedics.

Despite the interventions, the injured, who was in serious condition, could not be saved at the (nearby) Training and Research Hospital.

“WOUNDED ARE DISCHARGED”

(location omitted) OIZ Chairman of the Board of Directors, at the press conference he held at the administration building, said that an undesirable accident occurred in the second stage of the OIZ.

Stating that an explosion occurred in the thermal furnace of the factory, gave the following information:

“In the thermal explosion, 3 of our friends were injured, 1 of our friends lost their lives. We wish God's mercy on our friend who lost his life, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The injured were discharged. After the explosion, OSB teams intervened immediately. Fire Brigade, AFAD, 112 Emergency Health teams worked wholeheartedly. The explosion wasn't big. It was an explosion in a thermal furnace. There isn't much damage. There is damage to only one oven. Necessary investigations are carried out by the Prosecutor's Office and the experts. On Monday, the factory will again be in production and will continue its shipments.”

We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. We have written that previous sentence hundreds of times over the past 12 years. We find solace in knowing that this tragedy will be used by companies to prevent a recurrence. We have reached out to the aluminium company to find the root cause. We will post an update as soon as we get further information.
