Improper load
securement during transportation is a hazard that primarily affects the
surrounding communities. Individuals have been injured and killed by this hidden
hazard. Here is a recent incident highlighting the need for proper load
securement.
Moments of apprehension and
heavy slowdowns to road traffic in the early afternoon of today in (town name
omitted). Around noon, a truck traveling along the state road (name omitted) lost
its load just as it engaged the first roundabout in the direction of (town name
omitted).
The dynamics
For reasons still being
ascertained, numerous aluminum billets slipped from the heavy vehicle onto the
asphalt. The large metal artifacts occupied part of the roadway, making transit
dangerous. Fortunately, at the time of the fall of the material, no vehicles
were passing in the immediate vicinity of the trailer: a providential
circumstance that avoided damage to people or other cars.
Rescue and inconvenience
Despite the absence of injuries, the episode caused inevitable inconvenience to the road network, with queues and slowdowns throughout the surrounding area, particularly busy at that rush hour. On the spot, the agents of the local police intervened for traffic management and the ritual surveys, the (road department) staff for the coordination of road safety and a specialized company in charge of the removal of the structures and the reclamation of the road surface.
We are thankful no one was injured in this incident. This could have been
prevented if the billets were properly secured to the truck. Please comment.
