Positive reinforcement towards worker safety cannot be underestimated.
Acknowledging workers who are safe instills pride and ownership for the
individual worker. Here is a story where the simple acknowledgment of a safe
environment will leave a lasting impression on this aluminium plant:
Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy, Minister of
Oil and Gas, recently visited Sohar Aluminium smelter site. Welcomed by Mulham
al Jarf, Chairman of Sohar Aluminium Board and Said al Masoudi, Acting CEO of
Sohar Aluminium, the minister was taken on a tour of the plant where the
minister was provided with an overview of the company’s world-class
‘Greenfield’ facility. Dr Rumhi was in Sohar for the inauguration of Oman
Aluminium Rolling Company (OARC), and visited Sohar Aluminium; the supplier of
molten aluminium to OARC. During the tour, the minister greatly appreciated and
acknowledged Sohar Aluminium’s pursuit for excellent working conditions amidst
a safe and pleasant environment.
Said al Masoudi stated, “Safety of our
workforce is at the heart and is the essence of Sohar Aluminium’s Operations.
We believe that our employees are our greatest asset and thus, we all strive to
ensure the safety and well-being of each and every individual working at Sohar
Aluminium.” Sohar Aluminium has also committed 60 per cent of its total
production towards its downstream industries, which will eventually help to
create more jobs and facilitate development of the entire region.
Established in September 2004, to undertake a
landmark ‘Greenfield’ Aluminium Smelter Project in the Sultanate of Oman, Sohar
Aluminium is today jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy
Company PJSC — TAQA and Rio Tinto Alcan. The Company, in its short span
of existence, has won several global acclaim for its superior, environmentally
friendly and energy-efficient technology.
