Firefighters worked at the scene for about two hours...

When a fire breaks out do you know where to go? Are you familiar with the evacuation route? If you answered yes, there is one more question. If you were in your plant away from your work area and a fire breaks out, would you know where to go? Here is a story that showed what emergency evacuation training and drills can result in:

A fire at Aleris in Uhrichsville, Ohio in the United States caused about $50,000 in damages one evening during the week of May 10, 2015. Uhrichsville firefighters were called to the scene at about 7:05 p.m. According to fire Captain, the fire started in a unit that strips paint off aluminum. The fire spread to two conveyer belts and burned some nearby plastic curtains.

Before firefighters arrived, workers used three large fire extinguishers to help control the blaze.
Firefighters worked at the scene for about two hours. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog wants to congratulate all the personnel at Aleris Uhrichsville that safely evacuated when the fire broke out.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration has a useful document on workplace evacuations. It can be viewed here.
