The importance
of safety campaigns cannot be underestimated. No doubt the effort, expense and
coordination to successfully pull off a safety campaign can be large. But, the
rewards and benefits can be even greater. The opportunity to reemphasize the
importance of safety to your workers in a different manner or different message
should never be passed up. The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog has posted stories
of various safety campaigns that companies in our industry have undertook. Here
is another story of a recent launch of a safety campaign:
Gulf
Aluminium Rolling Mill Company (GARMCO), the Bahrain-based international
aluminium rolling mill and one of the largest downstream aluminium facilities
in the Middle East, announced on June 7, 2015 the kick-off for its Safety
Awareness Campaign 2015 under the title “You can make this, THE SAFEST PLACE”.
The campaign will be held under a ‘Superheroes’ theme, and will include a series
of safety awareness activities given by external senior lecturers and doctors.

Other educational trainings such as:

Heat exhaustion,

Forklift,
·
Housekeeping,
·
Along with sessions on child behavior Issues and parental
relationships will also be given.
The safety awareness campaign will be reinforcing the Health and
Safety rules and guidelines, related key performance indicators, job safe
practice training, and preventive campaigns which are conducted on a regular
basis at GARMCO. The site is fully-equipped with a health center and fire
station; and regular medical check-ups for staff, and fire drills and emergency
evacuation exercises, are conducted. Further to that, appropriate protective
equipment is provided in areas where there may be a risk of injury or exposure
to hazardous substances or conditions.
Commenting
on the Campaign, Ms. Hind Al-Sabbagh, Head of Corporate Communications at
GARMCO said, “We are delighted to announce the launch of the upcoming safety
awareness campaign. The main idea is to make the campaign more memorable and a
little humorous while emphasizing the seriousness of the messages. By drawing
on the hero theme, GARMCO encourage workers and staff to be heroes by not
underestimating any risk in the workplace no matter how small”.
The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog congratulates the management and
workers at GARMCO for all they do to make their workplace the safest it can
be. We firmly believe that this story will be used as inspiration for another
company. We can imagine someone saying “look what Garmco just did, we can do
that here”. The truth is that yes your company, your plant can launch a safety
campaign.
The editors of APSB were in the Middle East a few months ago and our
scheduled prevented us from visiting GARMCO. Which is unfortunate, but on our
next visit we’ll make sure we stop by GARMCO.
Keep up the good work GARMCO, the industry has taken notice and we
