The quick response of a local emergency management
personnel varies depending on the location of plant and type of fire. Bringing
in local emergency management departments is imperative in providing them with
the knowledge of your facility which can result in quicker response times and
an added protection to their and your worker’s safety. Here is a recent story of
how a quick response put a fire before it could do real damage to an aluminum
plant.
A die cast fire at a factory in Fremont,
Indiana in the USA was quickly brought under control on Thursday, July 14, 2016
in the morning.
The fire at General Aluminum on East Swager
Drive was reported at 7:08 a.m. The Fremont Fire Department said on its
Facebook page that heavy fire was showing when they arrived. A small fire on
the roof also had to be taken of.
There was no damage to the structure and no
injuries were reported. Over 50 employees had to be evacuated. They were
allowed back inside just over an hour after the fire was reported.
The Angola
Fire Department provided mutual aid. Firefighters cleared the scene at 8:4
3a.m.
The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog congratulates this aluminum company
on a quick and safe evacuation. In addition we are commend the fire departments
for their quick response to the company and putting the fire out. On a social
media posting one of the aluminium companies put it best when they posted to the fire departments “Thanks
guys (and gals) for insuring us we have a place to go back to work”.
