"he fell about 45 feet....."

One skipped step can injure or kill a worker. Here is a recent story where a worker skipped a step and paid the price:

A person fell at aluminium smelter in the United States one day during the first week of July 2018.

According to the assistant area director for OSHA, they received an after-hours report of a fall at a nearby aluminium smelter.

He said the report stated an employee with construction company. was working on the roof when he fell about 45 feet. According to the report, the employee was wearing a body harness and fall protection was in place but it was not used.

The employee reportedly had a broken femur and was hospitalized.

The assistant area director for OSHA said OSHA has a five-day response time after receiving a report and a senior compliance officer has been assigned. He said there is a statute of limitations of about six months while they conduct interviews before their full findings will be released.

The construction company confirmed one of their employees fell at the aluminium smelter and said he was being treated for his injuries and was "stable condition." The company was contracted to work at smelter on a project that has been ongoing for the past couple of months.

According to the local Sheriff, it said it happened around 11 a.m. The local Sheriff said there is no criminal investigation into the incident, as far as he knows it was an accident.

He said the person was flown from the scene.

We pray that the injured worker recovers fully from his injuries. During our tours around the globe we have had the opportunity to speak to construction workers and maintenance personnel who are more likely to be required to wear fall protection equipment. We will use this incident as a learning tool to explain to the workers what can happen if they skip a step.
