Many companies educate
their workers that safety does not end at the gates leaving their factories.
Safety is a mindset, be safe while working, be safe while away from the job.
Many companies talk about the importance of safe driving when away for work.
Here is a recent incident that the driver was not at fault and is lucky to be
alive. Here is a story from last year that sat in the "draft" folder and was not published.
Police are trying to nab
the driver of the tractor that hit the car in which the managing director of an
aluminium company was travelling one night in March 2018.
The incident took place
around 23:50 when the managing director and his wife were returning from after
attending a programme of the launch jointly organized by the aluminium company
and a local railway. Both of them had suffered injuries on their head and are
undergoing treatment at a private hospital here. They have been stated to be
out of danger.
Inspector in charge of the
local police station, said that they were trying to nab the driver of the
tractor.
"We have already
seized the tractor. It seems that the tractor driver was responsible for the
accident as the tractor was being driven in wrong direction," said police
inspector.
Wrong side driving have
emerged as a major concern for the police in the city and outskirts. As per
official statistics, more than 20,000 people were penalised for driving on
wrong side in India in 2017.
"Wrong-side driving
near Uttara on the city outskirts has led to several accidents in recent past.
Most of the times, vehicles drive on the wrong side to cover less distance in
the city and . Wrong-side driving possesses extreme danger for other
vehicles," said a senior police officer.
Transport officials said
that they would soon start a drive to curb wrong-side driving on the national
highway connecting Bhubaneswar and Puri.
"We will penalise
those driving on wrong side. We may also suspend the driving licences of repeat
offenders," said a transport official of Puri district.
We are thankful that the occupants of this car were not killed and
hopefully will recover fully from their injuries.
On our travels around the world. Many times we have been instructed
not to drive after sunset. We always listened to our hosts but wondered if they
were being over cautious. Apparently they were not.
