"which a nail was nailed to his ankle..."

The use of pneumatic tools in our plants is commonplace. On occasion incidents can arise from pneumatic tools. Here is a recent story.

On the 28th of October 2021, around 4:16 pm, a man in his 20s had an accident in which a nail was nailed to his ankle at an aluminum factory in an East Asian country.

According to the Fire Department, a nail loaded in an air tabletting machine was fired during repair work on a wooden pallet in the factory, and Mr. A (29, male) complained of pain and was urgently transported to a university hospital.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including whether or not safety rules were observed against factory officials.

We pray that the injured worker recovers fully. These are one of the incidents that seem rare but when you ask a maintenance worker if they ever had a near miss with a nail gun. They commonly respond with a “yes”. This incident would be a great tool box talk for a maintenance department.
