The improper load securement of finished products on flatbed trailers is a hidden hazard many workplaces overlook. Here is a recent incident highlighting this hazard.
This
Saturday, traffic on (road name omitted), was again closed for several
hours due to the dump of two trailers, in one of which a carrier lost his life.
The
first of the accidents occurred around 10:30 a.m., when a truck from (company name
omitted), carrying aluminum, overturned after losing control in a curve due to
the weight of the load.
The
unit, which was heading towards (town name omitted), hit the central
containment walls and was crossed over both lanes, leaving the load scattered
on the pavement.
The
accident was reported to (emergency management services), and paramedics from (two
nearby towns) went to the site. After an assessment of the driver,
injuries were ruled out.
We are thankful that the driver nor any nearby motorists nor
pedestrians were injured or killed in this incident. Preliminary investigation
is the driver of the truck lost control in a curve and the truck flipped.
It appears that aluminium billets were be transported. It is unknown
how the billets were secured down. We assume that the billets were not properly
secured. Because if they were properly secured they would not have came off.
Even if the truck overturned.
Please comment.
