The loading and unloading of raw materials or finished products onto barges or ships is a task that is done infrequently. Here is a recent incident highlighting the hazard of docking a boat next to a smelter.
A ship carrying bauxite hit one of (aluminium company’s) docks at the company's port facilities in (town name omitted) one evening in December 2025. Unloading operations are interrupted.
The boat, coming from (another country), hit the wharf, causing damage to the port facilities
According to the company, no one was injured.
Following the event, the area was really safe. In the next steps, we are waiting for a specialized firm to come and assess the condition of our infrastructure, to assess what work may be required, all to allow a safe resumption of our unloading activities on that wharf," confirmed the aluminium company spokeswoman.
We are
thankful that no one on the boat nor on shore was injured in this incident. It
could have been much much worse. Looking at the damage of the boat we wonder what the dock looks like and question if a pilot was on the boat or not.
