The Aluminium Plant Safety blog informs about accidents and near misses that occur in aluminium plants, cast houses, foundries, smelters, etc. that are around the world. Dust, molten metal steam explosions, fires, moving vehicles accidents, etc. will be covered. It is not this blog's intention to place blame on either company nor worker(s), but the hope that awareness of these accidents brings education and prevention of recurrence.

Blind Spot Leads to Worker Being Crushed....
Incidents involving movable equipment are not uncommon in our industry. This story occurred last week in the Southeast United States. Here is the story:
A worker was crushed to death in an accident at an aluminium recycler when he was run over by heavy equipment.
A worker was run over by a machine loading a truck with scrap metal last Friday morning.
The victim either failed to see the machine coming or the operator didn't see the worker.
The local police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the death.
A useful document regarding movable equipment is OSHA's Standard 1926.602: Motor Vehicles, Mechanized Equipment, and Marine Operations. It can be found here.
