The hazard of aluminium dust/fine explosions in our industry is well known. Over the past 16 months, over 15 workers have been killed by combustible explosions in the aluminium industry.
Techniques fighting combustible dust fires are known throughout the industry. Unfortunately, there have been incidents where the proper fire fighting techniques were not used. Resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities.
There are been several incidents where firemen were killed by following improper procedures.
Every plant should invite their local fire department to tour their facility once a year. This tour is very important so that the fire department is aware of the design and layout of your facility.
