The goal of every plant is not to
have fewer accidents, but to have zero accidents. What sets great facilities apart from others
with less than stellar safety records is active involvement from plant managers
as well as corporate leaders. Most importantly a CEO who is active in promoting
and developing an environment that encourages a culture of safety that can flourish
in an organization. Here is a recent example of what Tim Murray, CEO of Alba
and his team have created in the Middle East.
Aluminium Bahrain
B.S.C. (Alba), a leading aluminium smelter of the world, has successfully
achieved 4 million work hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI). This achievement
underlines Alba’s continuous commitment to safety and maintaining a
zero-accident work environment.
Alba’s Executive
Management and various managers praised all the employees for their proactive
attitude and commitment towards safety.
Applauding the
employees’ efforts towards achieving this milestone, Alba’s Chief Executive
Officer, Tim Murray said:
“At Alba, we believe
that Ownership of Safety is everyone responsibility and the achievement of 4
million work hours without LTI could not be achieved without the commitment of
employees to this principle. I thank all the employees and the Alba Labour
Union for their dedication to making Alba a safe place to work.”
Alba, with the
objective of enhancing awareness of safety, health and environment,
continuously maintains safety awareness campaigns throughout the year. The
company recently launched the Summer Safety Blizzard Campaign – a plant-wide
Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Week – to promote a safe and healthy
working environment during the summer months and help employees beat the heat
and work safely.
The APSB wants to
congratulate Tim Murray and all the employees at Alba for understanding that
safety is more than posters on the wall and slogans on a message board. Safety
is changing your behavior and actions to protect not only yourself but your
coworkers from accidents.
The APSB would love to know
if your plant is having a safety week or starting off a new safety campaign.
