Incidents occur that make it into the news media sometimes give little to no information on what occurred. Regardless, we still find that these incidents can be used to remind your employees that incidents do occur and the importance of following their training. Here is a recent story.

A female employee died at an aluminum plant in the Eastern United States one afternoon during the week of January 31, 2016.

Crews responded around 2 p.m. for a report of a cardiac arrest, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. There was an accident that caused her to go into cardiac arrest, according to local fire department spokesperson.

Crews are still investigating what caused her to go into cardiac arrest. The company has yet to release her name.

We offer our sincere condolences and prayers to the deceased worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. Within hours of the incident social media posts of condolences and love were posted to the deceased worker. Her story mirrors some many others who have died in workplace incidents. The APSB has chosen from the beginning not to include the names of the injured or deceased as well as the company name nor location. Regardless, we hope the reader will take pause and realize that each and every worker injured and/or killed in their workplace has a family, friends and coworkers who loved them dearly. Now think of yourself. Think of your family, friends, and coworkers. Imagine what would happen if you passed away suddenly in a workplace incident. Hopefully, this little exercise will reinforce to you the importance of following your training.
