Ladder Safety Month!

Sometimes the common tools in our plant have hidden dangers that only become known when an incident occurs. A common tool in every plant is the ladder. It sounds silly, if that can be said, but many workers have been injured and killed by improperly using a ladder. The American Ladder Institute is promoting March 2017 as “National Ladder Safety Month”. Here is the story:

Every year over 300 people die in ladder-related accidents, and thousands suffer disabling injuries. Mark your calendar to join the American Ladder Institute (ALI) in celebrating the first-ever National Ladder Safety Month, designed to arise awareness of ladder safety and to decrease the number of ladder-related injuries and fatalities.

What is National Ladder Safety Month?

National Ladder Safety Month is the only movement dedicated exclusively to the promotion of ladder safety, at home and at work. During March 2017, National Ladder Safety Month will bring heightened awareness to the importance of the safe use of ladders through resources, training and a national dialogue.

ALI, the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, is the presenting sponsor for National Ladder Safety Month.

There will be different areas of focus through the month:

March 1 – 11 Why Ladder Safety and How It Affects Everyone

March 12-18 Ladder Safety at Work

March 19-25 Ladder Safety at Home

March 26-April 1 Ladder Inspection and Disposal

The “why”: Every life saved is precious

ALI believes ladder accidents are preventable, but without better safety planning and training and continuous innovation in product design, we will continue to see far too many fatalities. Please join ALI and its members in sharing this message with the world.

The goals of National Ladder Safety Month are to:

• Increase the number of ladder safety training certificates issued by ALI
• Increase the frequency that ladder safety training modules are viewed on www.laddersafetytraining.org www.laddersafetytraining.org
• Lower the rankings of ladder-related safety citations on OSHA’s yearly “Top 10 Citations List”
• Decrease number of ladder-related injuries and fatalities
• Increase the number of competent ladder inspector trainings
• Increase the number of companies and individuals that inspect and properly dispose of old, damaged or obsolete ladders

We commend the American Ladder Institute on promoting ladder with this great campaign. We like the fact that this campaign talks about ladder safety at your home. Because safety does not end when you clock out at work. Safety continues when you are with your family and friends!
