"fire may have started in an area where workers melt down aluminum"

It is our sincere hope that no company, nor any worker have to deal with an emergency involving a hazard during their work. But, as we know emergencies do occur and for those who plan, prepare, and practice for them are safer compared to those who ignore their hazards. Here is a recent incident

Local county firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire at a large metal recycling facility on day during the week of September 10, 2017 in California.

Fire officials were dispatched to the facility in at 2:52 p.m., said a spokesman for the County Fire Department. Firefighters knocked down the fire at 4:43 p.m.

About 50 personnel were on scene, including a hazardous materials unit, officials said. In addition another local fire department assisted. No injuries were reported.

The fire may have started in an area where workers melt down aluminum, said County Fire Supervisor, adding hot metal had gotten out of its container. No other information was available.

It does not take a large volume of molten metal to ignite combustible material. For 50 fire personnel to be at this remelt facility for nearly 2 hours leads one to believe that the fire was either large or tough to extinguish. Regardless, all reports are that no aluminium worker nor fire department personnel were injured. For that we are grateful.
