"they need to make sure they can get their whole truck across the tracks before"

The location of railroads in or near our plants are commonplace. The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog has posted incidents involving the hazard associated with railroad crossings. Here is a recent incident emphasizing the need for caution whenever using a railroad crossingg:

Many of our facilities are either served by railroads or there are railroads nearby. Many of the railroad crossins

On Thursday, the Richland Parish Sheriff along with the Delhi Police Department responded to a train accident in Delhi.

The Sheriff said the accident happened around 10 a.m. near Highway 80 and Depot Street. The sheriff said an 18-wheeler was hit by a Kansas City Southern train. He said the driver was crossing the tracks but got stuck in traffic and could not move forward. The sheriff said the train smashed into the back of the trailer.

No injuries were reported, but the sheriff said drivers should be more alert.
"The thing is with these 18-wheelers crossing these tracks they need to make sure they can get their whole truck across the tracks before they stop, he said. "Because you never know when a train coming and you don't have that much time to get off the tracks. And what I want to say is just be very careful at these railroad crossings."
The 18-wheeler was owned by Sapa, an aluminum company located blocks away from where the accident happened.

It is unknown if the truck driver was in the vehicle when the train hit it. Regardless, the Aluminium Plant Safety Blog is glad that no one is injured in this incident. The importance of training your personnel on railway crossing safety cannot be underestimated.

Finding the appropriate safety information for any hazard is necessary to training your personnel. The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog finds the information from Operational Lifesaver. Operation Lifesaver is a nonprofit public safety education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks.
