The accumulation of
aluminium fines around machinery in our industry is most commonly removed from suction
systems. If a spark gets sucked into the suction system any accumulated
material in the duct system could ignite. Here is a recent example of that:
A local Fire
Protection Service in Canada was called to visit a manufacturing company one day
during the week of July 15 at approximately 1:30 pm, for a fire that broke out
inside the building. Forty-five employees were evacuated, but no one was
injured. The fire was also quickly mastered. This is an aluminum dust suction
device that caught fire due to a spark, around 13:25, this afternoon, at the
factory.
The fire was easy to
control and everything has been under control since 1:50 pm, says the local
head of the emergency response division.
We congratulate the
company for successfully evacuating 45 workers when this fire occurred. We hope
that any damage was minimal.
The Aluminium Times
Magazine has had numerous articles about the hazard of aluminium fines. This article can be found here.
