"struck and dragged by....front-end loader before being run over....."

Here is a recent story emphasizing the importance of segregation between workers and moving equipment.

The (State) Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued its initial first report, on the death of a worker at a remelt facility in the USA.

According to the report, “At approximately 10:30 a.m., the furnace, loader-operator was walking in close quarters to where a front-end loader was operating. He was struck and dragged by the box on the front-end loader before being run over. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The state OSHA said the description reflects information provided to state OSHA at the initial report of the incident and is not the result of the official state OSHA investigation. A more detailed report will be made over the next few months.

“Employers and employees are urged to use extreme care and safety diligence in all work activities,” state OSHA said in its release.

We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased worker and his family. We pray that readers will use this incident as a learning tool to educate all workers on the importance of knowing where moveable equipment is and what it is going to do.

We do also pray for the equipment operator in this incident. We pray that the equipment operator will be offered mental health counseling to deal with their role in this tragedy.
