We have discussed the importance of notifying local emergency management services when the need arises. Any delay in notification can have negative consequences. Here is a recent story showing what happens when you notify the local emergency management services of a fire.

Firefighters battled an early-morning one day during the week of December 15, 2019 blaze for hours in a city in the USA.

It was reported just before 4 a.m. in the industrial park near an International Airport.

Flames and smoke were seen coming from the manufacturing plant. At one point, firefighters were told to evacuate the building as they continued to fight the fire. It was put under control around 6:30 a.m.

The general manager told a local news radio station at the scene he believes a wax settling tank lit on fire. The company makes aluminum castings from wax molds.

"The fire marshal will have to conduct the investigation and he'll be doing some interviews with employees and stuff like that so at this point, gas, electric is all shut off so I'm not sure when they'll be back up in business," said the local Fire Chief. The general manager, said employees were inside the building when the fire broke out, but a worker pulled the fire alarm after spotting smoke and everyone escaped safely.

No injuries were reported, officials said.

A local special need school, which is located down the road from the fire, had a 2-hour delay on the day of the fire.

We are thankful no one was injured. We post this story to show the importance of immediately notifying the local ems departments. All too often the Aluminium Plant Safety Blog will post an incident where the workers waited a period of time before they called for help. Always call the ems. Always. If you believe you can control and/or extinguish the flames with available fire extinguishers. Still call the fire department.
