Accidents can
occur for a myriad of reasons. What occurred before this accident has happened
to us when driving once. That we started sneezing for no apparent reason.
Thankfully, no other motorists were near us or possibly an accident could have
occurred. Here is a recent incident:
Indiana
State Police (ISP) say a rollover crash in northern Indiana happened because
the driver suffered from a fit of sneezing.
The accident
happened in Lake County on morning in October 2019. ISP said the driver was
exiting from Interstate 80/94 when he was hit by a spell of sneezing and
coughing.
The driver
told troopers when he opened his eyes thought he saw a passenger car next to
him and swerved to avoid it. That move caused the trailer, loaded with 30,000
pounds of aluminum, to sway and overturn.
The driver
was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a hospital. No one else was
hurt.
The roadway
was closed nearly six hours while crews off-loaded and uprighted the truck.
We pray that the
injured driver recovers fully from his injuries.
When we had our
sneezing fit while driving thankfully no other motorists were nearby. In the
future, we wonder if the best procedure would be to immediately engage the
vehicles emergency flashers and slow down. As unique as this incident was, most
of us can understand or relate to the truck driver sneezing repeatedly and
opening his eyes and being shocked to see a vehicle nearby.
