The hazard of
electric arc flashes in our industry is sometimes forgotten. Not forgotten by safety
managers per se, but by workers. In so much workers tend to forget where electrical
arcs can occur. Many times I fear workers are complacent and all too often go
about their normal routine failing to acknowledge this hazard that has injured
and killed too many. Here is a story emphasizing the hazard of arc flashes.
Around 9:30 am one Sunday in June 2020 there was an explosion at automotive plant in Asia.
A regular employee and the other, a temporary
worker were found lying at the scene.
Both
were rescued, with burns on the upper limb and face, in serious condition.
According
to the police, the two were operating the power distribution panel of the
smelting furnace, which had been stopped since the 5th of June, when the
explosion occurred, after some sparks.
We pray that the injured workers recover fully from their burns. The
