The use of contractors in our plants have grown exponentially over the past decade. Housekeeping is one of the most common tasks that outside contractors have been brought in to do. Here is a recent incident highlight a hidden hazard that is present in many of our plants.
Two residents of (town omitted) were hospitalized from the territory of the aluminum plant to the toxicology department of the city clinical emergency hospital (name omitted). Women were poisoned by toxic fumes while working with detergents. This was reported on one day during the week of January 9th, 2022 at the regional health committee.
One by one, the employees of the cleaning company got to the hospital. 41 and 53-year-old women were attracted to the (company name) aluminum plant from an outside organization. After using cleaning chemicals, they felt unwell and contacted (aluminum company) Medical Center. As explained in the press service of the plant, first aid was provided to those poisoned by toxic fumes, after which the victims were taken to the hospital for a full medical examination. There is no threat to the life of (town name) patients - in the coming days, the patients will be able to go to the discharge.
“Two women were taken to the toxicology department of the City Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medical Care from the territory of an aluminum plant,” the regional health department confirmed. - Doctors assess their condition as mild, the next 2-3 days will be under the supervision of specialists.
We pray that the injured workers recover fully from their injuries. We are so very pleased that once they felt unwell they notified the aluminium company. No doubt the aluminum company learned what chemicals were mixed together. We assume that the chemicals once combined resulted in a gas being generated which was inhaled by the two workers.
We hope the readers will use this post (well every post) to learn from. This post should be used to ask cleaners “What cleaners should not be mixed/combined together?” If the cleaners can not answer that question, be concerned.
