When we broach the topic of workplace violence the response is commonly an awkward silence. Silence does not stop us from discussing this important topic. All workplaces need to acknowledge this hazard. Because a failure to address this topic does not mean it does not exist. Here is a recent incident highlight this hazard:
One person was fatally shot Thursday morning outside a (location name omitted) factory and a suspect in the killing was taken into custody, state police said.
The shooting occurred outside (company name omitted), an aluminum die casting factory located just north of (location omitted).
“One person is deceased and there is a subject detained right now. We believe it's an isolated incident and also that there's no threat to the public or anyone inside the facility," police officer told news media.
(Police officer) said he did not know what time the shooting occurred, where the person was shot outside the business, or what may have led to the shooting.
In a tweet, (police department)
said more information would be coming (following) afternoon.
We offer our
sincere condolences to the deceased individual’s family, friends, and
coworkers. Though we do not know at this time if the deceased individual was
employed by the aluminium company or not. It does not matter to us. A life was
ended. We will reach out to the aluminium company and post an update if any
further information is released.
