Planning and drilling for evacuations is commonly
overlooked by workplaces. It is only when an incident occurs and an evacuation
is performed. Does the workplace acknowledge that training and drills need to
be performed. Here is an incident highlighting the importance of evacuations:
A fire in a machine has forced the evacuation of aluminium wheel plant in
the (name omitted) industrial estate , an event that apparently has not caused
any injuries.
As sources from the Government of (name omitted) have confirmed to (news
media), the event took place around 5:30 p.m. in the oven area of the company
, which manufactures aluminum wheels.
Firefighters from in two nearby , as well as the Provincial Police, have
gone to the scene and evacuated the plant , although no injuries have been
reported.
A basic life support ambulance has also been deployed preventively, the
same sources point out.
We love posts such as this. No injuries, no fatalities.
Where a fire occurred the workers safely evacuate and the local fire department
extinguished the fire (without being injured). When fires occur they commonly
generate a lot of billowing smoke very quickly. It is not uncommon for a
workplace to fill with smoke very quickly. We have sadly reported on past
incidents where workers have become disoriented and could not find the nearby
exit. Aluminium Times magazine had an article about this topic. The article can be found here.
