"hand was trapped in a machine....."

Finger and hand entrapment can occur in the blink of an eye. Here is a recent incident highlighting the need for machine guarding.

A 29-year-old man was injured one morning in November 2024 in a workplace accident that took place on (location omitted) at around 10:17 a.m., as reported by (local media). The accident occurred when his hand was trapped in a machine. He has been transferred to the (nearby) Hospital in (town name omitted) with a trauma to the hand and a reserved prognosis.

Firefighters from (name omitted), the medical team, Provincial Police and advanced life support ambulance have been mobilized to the scene.

We pray that the worker’s hand recovers from their injuries.

Either machine guarding was lacking not sufficient or the workplace did not perform a risk assessment on the task or procedure that resulted in the worker’s hand be entrapped.
