"rocks collapsed....miner died..."

 

Though most bauxite strip mining is common. There is some deep mining of bauxite. Some of the hazards associated with deep mining are unique. Sadly, here is a recent incident.

At the (name omitted) mine in (area name omitted), rocks collapsed at an elevation of 1,010 meters. According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, on the shift in this area, preliminarily, there were 7 people, six of them were able to rise to the surface. The incident occurred at 23:30 one night in April 2025.

According to the press service of the regional investigative committee, a miner was injured as a result of the emergency. He died from his injuries. Currently, an inspection is being carried out for violation of industrial safety requirements. According to the pertinent government safety organization, 22 employees and 5 pieces of equipment were involved in the rescue of the miner who was under the rubble.

"The investigator of the (government organization) is carrying out a set of necessary measures aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident and giving an objective legal assessment of the situation. A forensic medical examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death of the deceased man, "the press service of the (area) reported.

The check was also organized by the Prosecutor's Office of the (local) Region. Compliance with safety regulations during mining operations and labor protection requirements will be assessed.

According to open sources, the mine belongs to (an aluminium company). The local governmental court requested a comment from the company on the causes of the incident.

"The company expresses its condolences to the relatives of the miner who died at the mine, and will provide them with the necessary assistance and support.

We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. We are thankful that more workers were not killed in this rock fall.
