"aluminum die-casting machine was burning on site..."

Fires in die casting plants can be severe for a myriad of reasons. Here one a recent incident that could have been catastrophic.

One night in the month of May, 2025, the fire brigade was alerted to a fire in an industrial building. An aluminum die-casting machine was burning on site; the fire had already spread to the hall roof.

The fire brigade moved out to the scene with a rescue fire brigade vehicle, the turntable ladder and the command car. After arriving, the turntable ladder was immediately brought into position in close coordination with the head of operations of the (name omitted) fire brigade and the roof was checked. Already during the first reconnaissance with the turntable ladder, open flames on the roof could be detected, which were immediately extinguished with the turning pipe.

At the same time, the group leader of the (fire brigade) had two squads equipped under respiratory protection and put on standby in order to be able to relieve the squad of the (name omitted) fire brigade in the interior attack if necessary.

After the indoor and outdoor flames were under control, the roof was opened further using a rescue saw in order to be able to extinguish embers in a targeted manner. The firefighter deployed was secured with fall protection. The work on the roof was carried out in close consultation with the head of operations of the (name omitted) fire department.

After the roof had been opened and checked, the mission for the (nearby town) fire brigade was over. The (nearby town) fire brigade was thus able to move in again. Three vehicles and 14 firefighters from the (nearby town) fire department were in action.

We assume that no one was injured in this incident. We are thankful no one was injured.

This started out as a small fire at a die casting machine. Fire grew and got into the roof. We have reported similar incidents where the roof is covered in dried oil that fed the fire. One of the worst fires in the die casting industry started at a diecasting machine and made it to the roof. But, the fire department was not able to extinguish it, and the entire facility caught burned. Thankfully that did not happen here.
