The importance of training is highlighted in this
incident. Here is the recent story:
For training tonight, (local fire department) crew was learning about
Breathing Apparatus, and how we respond to structure fires.
The training quickly became real when we were called to a going structure
fire at (aluminium company name omitted).
Quick thinking from Breathing Apparatus Operators contained the fire to
the "area of origin", preventing further damage to the premises. We
were quickly supported by (three local fire departments).
Crews were able to make the scene safe, and hand it back to (aluminium
company) staff.
New Media article:
Five (fire) trucks carrying approximately 20 volunteer firefighters
responded to an (ems) call at 9:14pm to attend a structure fire at an aluminium
production factory located on (name omitted).
When arriving on scene, volunteers found the fire located within a paint
hopper and conducted a direct attack utilising breathing apparatus, thermal
imaging cameras and atmospheric monitoring.
The firefighters contained the fire, ensuring it remained within the
hopper, aiming to make the scene safe for work to continue in adjoining parts
of the premises.
The fire has resulted in $100,000 damage to the factory.
The police and local ambulance service personnel were also on scene.
We are thankful no one was injured in this
incident. We thought it was a unique story where one article talked about how
the fire department personnel were undergoing training. During the training their
department got called to a fire and used their training.
There is no doubt that their training went to good use.
