During the week August 18, a worker was found dead in an aluminium plant in the United States. Here is the story.
Officials are investigating the death of an employee found early one morning during the week of August 18, 2013.
Plant spokesperson said the worker was discovered unresponsive by a cowoker at 2:45 AM. The worker was an equipment operator in the plant's plate department.
The worker was taken to a near by emergency room where he was pronounced dead.
Officials are investigating the death.
"There was nothing obvious" to indicate the cause of death, the plant spokesperson said. While adding the deceased working celebrated his 40th anniversary with the company in April.
The spokesperson said the department was shut down so officials could investigate. The deceased worker's family was contacted and grief counselors were arranged for employees.
"Our focus right now is on the investigation and supporting the (deceased) family," the spokesperson said "Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
Area director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said the death was reported to OSHA 4.5 hours after the worker was found dead.
"First thing this morning (day after) we sent a compliance officer out to (the company) to begin their investigation," said the area OSHA director.
OSHA typically does not release information during its investigations, which can last up to six months. Once the investigation is closed, OSHA will announce any citations issued and record of the investigation can be made public.
The APSB would like to offer our sympathy to the deceased worker's family, friends, coworkers.
