Electric
arc flashes injury and kill numerous workers on an annual basis. Here is a
recent incident highlighting the hazard of electric arc flashes:
Four workers, including two apprentices, were injured in a fire mishap
at the smelter plant in India one day during the week of July 21, 2019.
The injured
workers consisted of one aluminium company workers, two apprentices, and one
contract worker. The contract worked sustained 80 per cent burn injuries in the
mishap.
Sources said the mishap occurred when electric arc flash occurred. All
the injured workers were shifted to a nearby private hospital.
The aluminium company’s chairman and managing director visited the
victims at the hospital and interacted with the doctors and advised them to
provide the best possible medical care to them.
The aluminium company’s chairman and managing director also wished the
victims a speedy recovery. He assured all help from aluminium company to the
workers’ families. A high level committee has been constituted to investigate
into the cause of the mishap.
We pray that the injured workers recovery fully. The worker with
over 80% of his body burned needs everyone’s prayers. In our experience worker’s
with greater than 50% burns over their body eventually succumb to their
injuries. We pray that the injured worker recovers from his burns.

We are sad to report that the worker with the most severe burns succumbed to his injuries. We offer our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and coworkers. We pray that this incident is used to educate worker on the hazards of electric arc flashes.
