"of death was multiple blunt force injuries as a result of the....."

We will tell a story first. We were walking into a sporting goods store in the USA with our daughter. Cleaning the windows was a worker in a high lift. We observed the worker was not wearing his safety harness. We walked in and asked for the store manager. The first store associate said “well I can help you.” We respond “No, but we need to talk to the store manager.” A department manager came by, but we refused till the store manager came. We explained the situation. The store managers response was “oh my if he fell how would anyone walk into the store with all the blood.” Upon departing the store, we notice the worker was off the high lift with a new safety harness that he purchased at the nearby home supply store. Here is a recent incident emphasizing the hazard of high lifts.

A 66-year-old man died one evening after falling 20 feet from a lift in an aluminium company warehouse, according to the local County Coroner's Office.

The worker was critically injured in the fall at the aluminium company according to the coroner.

According to a news release, the local Fire Department responded to the business at 6:37 p.m. for a call about an employee who was injured in a fall.

The injured worker died in the emergency room at hospital (30 kilometers away), according to the coroner's office. The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries as a result of the fall, officials said.

The coroner's office and Antioch police are investigating.

We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. We pray that this post will prevent recurrence and stop another family from experience the unmitigated horrors of learning a loved one died in a workplace incident.

The Aluminium Times magazine had an article that discussed safety harnesses. The article can be downloaded here.
