"but the reported trauma was too serious....."

Every time we are in an aluminium plant and observe a moveable equipment drive by we look to see if the operator is wearing a seat belt. Here is a recent incident emphasizing the need for all individuals to wear seat belts in moving vehicles.

Another dead on the job. The tragedy took place in an aluminum processing company, in a town in Europe, in the province of (name omitted), where a 38-year-old man died of injuries sustained following an accident while he was operating with the 'forklift'. , the forklift truck used to load and unload goods. The worker was originally from (town name omitted). According to initial information, the vehicle would have overturned, crushing it. The 38-year-old was taken to hospital in (near by town), but died shortly after. Firefighters, carabinieri and medical personnel with ambulance and helicopter rescue intervened on the spot. The prosecutor has ordered the seizure of the forklift and the area. This is the 309th death at work in the first five months of 2021.

(Deceased worker’s name) a 38-year-old worker from (town name omitted) (in the province of (name omitted)), died this morning following injuries sustained in an accident at work in an aluminum processing company. The man, according to what has been learned, was maneuvering a forklift when the operating machine overturned, crushing it.

The worker was immediately taken to hospital but the reported trauma was too serious and the man died shortly after. The fire brigade, the health personnel, who arrived by ambulance and the helicopter rescue and the carabinieri, intervened on the spot of the accident for the surveys with the technicians of the health company. The machinery and the entire area were seized by the Prosecutor's Office.

We offer our sincere condolences to the worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. We pray and hope that they remember their loved one for how he lived and not how he died.

The Aluminium Plant Safety Blog weeps every time we post a fatal incident. We make the promise everytime to use these horrific accidents as learning tools. We do not demean nor disrespect the deceased worker. But, we talk about these incidents to prevent future ones. Sadly, after a decade we have too many incidents to talk about.

It appears from multiple news media sources that the deceased worker was operating a forklift and it overturned. We can only assume that the worker was not wearing a seatbelt and upon the forklift tipping over fell out and the forklift fell upon him. We have reported on numerous incidents such as this in the past. Always, they are fatalities.

Light Metal Age magazine had an article on this topic. It can be downloaded here.
