Many smelters and large workplaces have direct access to water for transportation. If not a river, a bay, or even ocean or sea. It allows for easy unloading of raw materials and shipping of final goods. There is a hazard associated with this unloading and loading of ships. Here is an incident from 2024 that highlights this hazard.
Under still unclear circumstances, a forklift hit a contractor worker, who was taken to a nearby Hospital (30+ km away) for first aid. There, a crushing fracture in the ankle was found, which needed immediate surgery and was transferred to a hospital in a larger city (140+ km away).
The above incident, as well as the accidents at work in general, are not due to the bad moment, they are the result of conditions of intensification of work and the inadequate protection measures prevailing in the majority of workplaces.
He also points out that in this particular accident took place in the area of the port where the mobility of trucks, cranes and people, has increased to levels like never before in the history of the factory's existence.
We pray that the injured worker recovers fully from their injuries. We will reach out to the company and ask about this incident.
