The importance
of emergency evacuation drills are discounted by many workplaces until an emergency
occurs. Here is a recent story highlighting the importance of emergency
evacuation drills.
Approximately 30 employees
had to be evacuated, and without registering any injuries, the fire was
apparently caused by the process of melting aluminum.
It was at 14:30 hours when
the emergency services were activated where they reported that on (location omitted)
a fire was starting inside a factory, so the elements were moved to the place.
Upon arrival they noticed
that the roof of an industrial ship was completely on fire, so the volcanoes
began with the control and extinguishing the fire maneuvers, the height of the
metal structure complicated the hard work of the smoke smoke; after more than 2
hours the fire was extinguished, resulting in consuming approximately 1000
square meters of fiberglass sheets, which were extinguished with about 30
thousand litres of water.
Finally the legal
representative of the aluminum smelter for social reason "(aluminium
company name) commented to the authorities that the probable cause of the fire
was due to the aluminum casting process.
We are thankful no one was injured in this incident. As we looked at this company’s social media posts, we are extremely thankful there were no injuries. It appears from their posts that their workers wear cotton fabric. It is only a matter of time until employees at this workplace are injured or killed when their clothing ignites.
The news article does not state the cause of the incident. But, it does state “the probable cause of the fire was due to the aluminum casting process”.
Another news article states the workers heard an explosion and looked up to see the roof on fire.
We will reach out to the company and see if we can find a root cause. We will update with further information if it becomes available.
