Vehicles hauling raw materials and finished goods are a hidden
hazard in our industry. Here is a recent incident highlighting the hazards of
railroad crossings.
On
Friday afternoon, there was an accident on the highway (name omitted), where a
train hit the back of a trailer transporting aluminum.
The
strong crash caused the material to be scattered on the tracks, which generated
an intense mobilization of emergency bodies.
Elements
of Civil Protection, Firefighters and Municipal Police went to the scene to
attend to the situation, carry out cleaning work and secure the area.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported; however, the incident generated
complications in vehicular circulation.
The
road remains closed while spilled material is removed, so drivers are advised
to use alternate routes to avoid mishaps. Local authorities are already working
to restore traffic as soon as possible.
It appears no one was injured in this incident. We assume that
this railroad crossing did not have a guard installed. Nevertheless, the driver
needed to stop with the train approaching.
There are many railroad crossings near many of plants. Each
workplace should confirm if the railroad crossings have guards. If they do not
the workplaces need to institute training for all their personnel on safety
when crossing the railroad tracks.
