In most aluminium plants suspended loads of raw materials, supplies, finished products are transported by overhead cranes, conveyors, etc. The hazard of suspended load falling is commonly overlooked by workers. Here is a recent incident highlighting the hazard of suspended loads.
A
worker lost his life on one afternoon after suffering a work accident inside a
plant of the (aluminium) company, located in the municipality of (location name
omitted).
According
to the first reports, the victim was preliminarily identified as (
name omitted), 38 years old, who was allegedly performing work inside the
facilities when the mishap occurred.
According
to witness versions, the worker would have been hit by an industrial cart,
commonly known as "baker type", which fell on him, causing him
serious injuries.
After the accident, colleagues requested the support of the emergency corps and the man was transferred in serious condition to (nearby) Hospital, where, despite the efforts of the medical staff, he was declared without vital signs.
Medical reports indicate that the worker had head trauma, in addition to various blows that finally caused his death.
Elements of police corporations and ministerial personnel went to both the hospital and the industrial plant to initiate investigations and clarify how the accident occurred.
Investigating agents remained in the facilities interviewing managers and witnesses, while the area was guarded as part of the corresponding proceedings.
The authorities will be in charge of determining the causes of the accident and determining responsibilities, while the body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for the practice of the autopsy of law.
We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased worker’s family, friends and colleagues. Though we have seen a photo of the aftermath. We do not know if the worker was in a pedestrian walkway when the suspended load fell upon them or not.
