One had 40% burns and the other 30% burns....

The failure to wear proper fire resistance safety clothing is highlighted in this incident.

A fire caused by an explosion left two people injured in a factory in the (name omitted), in (location omitted), on one night in August 2024. The two victims were employees of the establishment.

The two injured, who work at the site, one 19 and the other 41 years old, were treated with several burns by the teams of (emergency management services). The victim, 19 years old, had about 40% of his body burned and had burns on his arms, back and face. The other man, 41 years old, had burns on 30% of his body.

The Fire Department had difficulty putting out the fire, which started around midnight. Much of the company, which manufactures iron and aluminum rims, was destroyed.

The causes of the fire are still to be investigated.

We pray that injured workers recover fully from their injuries. When this incident occurred, we contacted our contacts in this country. We were informed it was an aluminium molten metal incident.

If the workers were wearing proper fire-resistant safety clothing their injuries would have been eliminated if not minimized. We would assume that the workers were wearing cotton short sleeve t-shirts which ignited.

The Aluminum Association (USA) has a great reference document that covers proper safety clothing. It can be found here.

We will update this post when more information is made available.
