"11 fire departments responded (foundry fire)"

Welding is performed in almost every workplace daily. Either performed during production or by maintenance. Many times this task is overlooked as a hazard. Here is a recent incident highlight the hazards associated with welding.

An apparent accidental fire from welding brought 11 fire agencies out to (aluminium foundry) on Sunday night.

The local County Sheriff's Office  said they assisted 11 fire agencies with a building fire at (company name omitted) foundry on Sunday just before 9:30 p.m.

All employees safely evacuated with no reported injuries and "initial concerns for chemical exposure were put to rest," deputies said.

Some nearby residents self evacuated during the fire response though no formal evacuation order was issued.

Initial reports suggest the fire happened accidentally due to welding.

We are thankful that no workers nor fire department personnel were injured in this fire. Though the news media did not state what combustible was on fire. We hope the readers will look at their workplaces and ask if welding is being performed can a fire occur from a misplace spark?
