The maintenance and repair of furnaces is a hazardous job. Here is a recent incident that could have been worse.

Two workers were injured because of an incident at the (name omitted) aluminum plant, the press service of (company name omitted) reports.

"On (one day in May 2026) at the (aluminium smelter), during the cleaning of the drying area of furnace No3, there was a partial detachment of the material build-up and its fall. At the time of the work, there were two employees of the sintering shop in the zone. As a result of the incident, the mill driver received a fracture of the right tibia. The second employee was diagnosed with a contusion of the soft tissues of the right lower leg without fractures and disability," the report says.

It is noted that both employees were promptly provided with first aid, after which they were taken to the regional hospital.

"According to the results of the examination, the sinterer was released home: no fractures were detected. The mill operator was hospitalized. Employees of the authorized body in the field of industrial safety visited the site of the (aluminium smelter). According to the results of the inspection, no signs of an accident at a hazardous production facility were revealed," the report said.

We pray that the injured workers recover fully from their injuries. We hope this incident will be used to make workplaces safer by asking the personnel maintaining a furnace on how to prevent this from recurring.
