"found face down inside the equipment ...already lifeless...."

Compactors are a common machine in aluminium workplaces. Sadly, hazards associated with compactors is commonly overlooked resulting in injuries and deaths. Here is a recent incident highlighting this hidden hazard present in many plants.

A 48-year-old worker died after being trapped in a hydraulic press used to compact aluminum materials in (town omitted). According to the Military Fire Department, the work accident happened around 2:40 pm on Monday, the 23rd, (location name omitted)

The victim was found face down inside the equipment, compressed by the structure, lifeless. The Military Police, the Scientific Police and the Civil Police were called by the garrison, which assisted in the removal of the body from the equipment.

We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. At this time, we do not know what occurred that resulted in the worker being crushed to death. We hope the area had a tv camera.

If there was no tv cameras nor witnesses this incident maybe a mystery. This tragedy brings back another fatal incident. Where a maintenance worker was killed. When explaining the fatal incident. An attendee ask, “What was the worker thinking.” We paused and responded, “We don’t know because the dead don’t speak.”

Looking at the photos of the compactor it appears to be an older machine. The concern with older machinery is that they may not have the latest safety mechanisms installed.

We will update this post when further information is available.
