Improper load securement is a hazard that many in our industry are oblivious to. This hidden hazard only become known when an incident like this occurs.
A worker died one morning in May 2026 in the (name omitted) industrial estate afterpart of the load he was transporting fell on him. It is a 56-year-old man from (location name omitted), according to sources from the company itself. The accident was reported at around 10.15 this morning.
The (provincial) union maintains that the accident could be due to a failure in the safety and securing systems of the cargo that was being transported. As (name of news media company) has been able to learn, castings weighing more than 400 kilos (881 pounds) were transported in the semi-trailer and one of them would have come loose when opening the door of the vehicle.
We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. We do not know if the items were properly secured or not. We do now that upon opening the cargo doors a casting fell upon the driver killing him.
It is common
to observe no load securement in cargo boxes. Many times the driver assumes they
are safe and the load is contained in the cargo box. As this fatal incident
shows us, that assumption that not securing a load in a cargo box trailer can
have deadly consequences.
