" Workers were seriously injured... caught in the current"

 

Every workplace has overhead electric power lines. During maintenance and construction activities these overhead electric power lines are a hazard that sometimes workers forget are there. Here is a recent incident highlighting the hazard of power lines.

The work accident that occurred in the evening hours during one night in February 2026 at the construction site of the (aluminium company name omitted) factory in the (location name omitted) caused great panic. Two workers working with a basket crane were seriously injured by being caught in the current as a result of contact with the high voltage line.

Unnoticed danger in the dark

The incident took place in the area where the expansion and construction works of the factory were underway, at dusk. According to the information obtained, the workers working in the subcontractor company that undertook the construction work were working on the basket crane when the arm (boom) of the crane hit the high voltage line passing through the area. The fact that the line could not be noticed due to the darkness brought the disaster.

When the crane came into contact with the wires, the two workers in the basket were exposed to thousands of volts of electric current.

Life-threatening conditions continue

Upon the notification of the employees in the vicinity, gendarmerie and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the area without wasting time. After the first aid interventions at the scene, two seriously injured workers were transferred to the hospital and treated in the intensive care unit. According to the information received from the hospital, it was learned that the health condition of the injured workers remained serious.

Investigation Launched

After the work accident, gendarmerie teams started an investigation at the construction site, and a large-scale investigation is being carried out to determine whether there was negligence in the incident.
