Workplace
violence is a topic that many companies are reluctant to talk about. Here is a
recent tragedy highlight the hazards of workplace violence.
The shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. one morning in May 2026 at an aluminium plant. Local Police officers arriving at the scene found the bodies of two men and a critically injured woman.
Police said the incident began as a domestic dispute between a man and his wife, , who is an employee at the plant.
A second man, employed by the aluminium company, was shot and killed when he tried to intervene in the confrontation after arriving for work, according to a police statement.
After killing the male worker, police say the (husband) suspect shot his wife and then committed suicide. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital. Police officials say she is stable but did not release her condition.
We offer our sincere condolences to the murdered male worker’s family, friends, and coworkers. That hero was trying to stop domestic violence that he viewed was occurring when he was shot and killed.
We must state that in no way do we place blame on the company nor the workers. Obviously, we place blame on the individual who murdered one worker and injured another.
We pray that this tragedy will be used to talk to workers about domestic violence. Sadly, we have reported numerous incidents of workplace violence. A sizable number of incidents occur when an outsider enters an aluminium plant. Sometimes the outsider is known to a worker(s) and enters the plant to do harm. We have reported on numerous incidents where an intruder has injured and killed a worker inside a workplace. This incident occurred in the parking lot of the aluminium plant.
A smelter asked the editors of the Aluminium Plant Safety Blog to participate in a community safety day. On the agenda was abuse, rape, violence. It was important for that smelter to teach their workers the signs of abuse that could lead to domestic violence in the homes.
